4th of July Fun 5 Pack

Time for another Friday Five linkup. Again, the linkup is saving my week as far as writing goes. But it's been a very productive week personally, so that'll happen. Anyway, as I write this late Thursday, I'm happy that there will be no work tomorrow. That's because it's the 4th of July. This week will center around this holiday time, a little randomly. This week's topic is

Five Fourth of July Fun Things

4th of July

1. This 4th, my daughter will run her first race!

I've written about this before, but I'm still excited for it AND it's on the 4th, so deal with it. Or skip it. Or read that she's running the kids race at the Firecracker 5K in Reston. It's free and she'll get her own bib and medal. I think it's awesome that Potomac River Running does that for the kids. There will be plenty of pictures and a write up to follow.

2. I honeymooned in Disney on the 4th.

My wedding day was on July 3, 2010. That does in fact mean I am writing this on my anniversary, but I'm writing in bed next to my wife, so it's ok. The next day, we flew to the most magical place on earth. Yes, Disney World. We watched the 4th of July fireworks from our room at the Polynesian that had a view of Cinderella's castle. The whole trip was amazing. I highly recommend honeymooning at WDW.

3. We've spent half of our anniversaries in WDW as well.

Two of four is half. It hasn't been a planned "let's go for our anniversary". It just lined up with our families' trips that we ended up there at that time, which worked out wonderfully. The one trip, for our anniversary, we had the most delicious meal I have ever eaten. We ate at Victoria & Albert's. V&A is Disney's Five Diamond Award restaurant. We had a chef selected 8 or 10 courses that included Wagyu beef that will never be matched. That is until some day I get to eat at the chef's table. Excuse me. The foodie in me needs a pause for the cause.

4. I do love when fireworks are set to classical music.

I have a love for music. All kinds. I do prefer where fireworks for the 4th are set to classical and marches over pop music. Just feels like a better fit. That could be just me, but that's what this ginger likes.

5. Watch 1776.

There is a musical, 1776, that was made into a DVD movie. That movie is fantastic. If you can, watch it. It's a good find. Fun, historical and has Mr. Feeny as John Adams. Plus, it has a song with one of my all time favorite rhymes in song form: predicate and Connecticut

  1. Thanks for the reminder of 1776 - my mom LOVED that movie....and I can hear some of the songs in my head now. ("Mr. Adams, dear Mr. Adams...") Happy Anniversary! And hope your daughter has a great race! Sounds like a terrific weekend, hope you enjoy. (definitely classical music over fireworks, only way to go)

  2. Oh, I hope your daughter has fun! (and hope it's not raining!). I will have to check out 1776. That sounds like the type of corny movie we might all enjoy.

    1. Disney fireworks are always great. But Disney 4th are just above and beyond (or maybe Iinfinity and beyond)

  4. I love music too. I listen to country songs during my runs and doing the housework. And when work is done, and I'm lying on the couch I listen to classical music.

    1. There are a couple country songs on my workout mix. Also a whole list on Spotify when I'm in the mood.

  5. We were at the same race! I had my son with me. Too bad we could have met up-next time! Hope you all had fun we did! Great temps

  6. Hope your daughter's first race went great! Our local 4th of July race has a kid's 1 miler, but I'm not sure my 3 year old is up for a full mile yet (we typically have to piggyback him at Disney because his legs still get tired). Maybe next year!

    1. It went really well. A lot of the ones down here are like that too. But this was down a long block so just the right distance for her.

    1. It's always ok to love Disney. I always will.

She had a blast. The people cheering was a little overwhelming for a little bit, but then she ran the rest ok, and immediately wanted to "run my race again".
