Five Goals for 2015
1. Run more
Number one on the list is to run more. I had a good year racing and have really enjoyed running. When I looked back at my totals, they were not as good as I would have liked. In 2015, I want to run more total miles, largely by running more consistently. That was the reason for the hit to my miles. I wasn't training regularly during the year. This year, I want to turn that around. I want to run more, run regular and run for me.
2. More PRs
This past year was a good year for racing: I finished my first half marathon, then followed that up with a new PR. I also finished the year strong with 2 PRs on my 5K, breaking it in two straight races. This year, I want to keep that ball rolling. First, I want to push my half marathon time down. My goal is to break 3 hours. I feel with some good training I can really accomplish this one. Second, I want to really push the short distance. My goal is to break a 30 minute 5K. This one feels like a bit of a stronger push but I feel with hard work I can drop my time enough to get here.
3. Grow my social media
My last year saw a great push on social media for me. I really grew my Twitter account, from nothing to just under 2,000 followers. I also started a Facebook page for my blog and more recently rebranded my Instagram and Pinterest to match my Twitter. I want to keep growing my Twitter base, but also be more active on and grow the other three. I want all of my accounts to grow, but want to do it the same way I did my Twitter, by being active and interacting with others and the running community.4. More blogging
One thing I've really enjoyed this past year has been writing here on my blog. I've had a great time writing about a wealth of topics: from Friday Fives like this to race recaps to my Disney Mickey Monday posts. My first goal is to ensure I keep writing regularly like I have the end of the year. This past year I even updated the look of my blog with a new template. One thing that has been sitting in my todo list are some additional pages for the blog. My goal is to create those pages to create a more well rounded blog.
5. Get fit, get healthy
I usually have the goal to lose weight. It also doesn't always happen. This year, I want to lose weight, but my goal is to let that happen while accomplishing my other goals. I'm working hard to eat healthier with WeightWatchers. Pairing that with #1 should help get me on my way with weight loss. I plan to do more than just running to get fit. Getting fit and getting healthy is really my paramount goal, which is why I'm ending my Friday Five here.Linking Up

DeleteGreat goals! I want to work on blogging more and regularly as well!
ReplyDeleteThanks. I really enjoy it so always working to improve at it.
DeleteNice goals! This year I plan on running more with an added focus on speed and hill workouts to complement my longer runs. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteWe have enjoyed getting to know you through your blog this past year. I suppose it may be time for us to spruce our blog up a little too!
ReplyDeleteThanks. I've enjoyed getting to know you guys too and interacting with you beyond when i first started just reading your posts. :-)
DeleteGreat goals! I've loved joining your Mickey Mondays linkup!
ReplyDeleteThanks. I've loved having you as a part of it. I'm hoping to find ways to grow it this year.
DeleteLove all your goals! Congrats on a great 2015!
ReplyDeleteThanks. It was a good year. Now to make this year a better one.
DeleteGreat goals, John! I have no doubt you'll be able to meet and exceed them!
ReplyDeleteThanks. That's the plan. :-)
DeleteWoohoo! Awesome goals! You're gunna rock 2015 :)
ReplyDeleteThanks. You too. Let's make 2015 huge!
DeleteHappy New Year and good luck with your 2015 goals. You might want to consider reading, Run Less, Run Faster.....that is the book I read and then followed to reduce my time from my first half marathon to second. I dropped from 2:28 to 2:06 in 6 months. The speedwork really does work!
ReplyDeleteVery cool. I'll have to look into it. Always looking for good resources. I know I took a look at the Jeff Galloway plan for faster finish has a good bit of speedwork in the plan, so I'll have to be sure to check it out. Thanks for the recommendation.
DeleteIt's actually a part of a goal I have set before I'm allowed to register to do Dopey. A couple things I have to accomplish personally before I can register. Then, it's just finding the time and money to make the trip happen, haha.
Great goals! Being fit and committing back to weight watchers is going to be one of my 2015 goals too! The scale has been creeping up the wrong way in December.
ReplyDeleteYeah. All the time away from home over the holidays hit me a little bit too. I do good on my routine, but didn't do great while away, part of which is the easy access to stuff. Though I feel I did better than I normally did, so it's a start. Love WeightWatchers though. I think I want to start the year with some new WeightWatchers recipes, because I love to cook.
DeleteGreat doable goals! I need to re focus some of my eating as well. Been nice connecting with you this past year-Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteThanks. It's been great connecting with you too. Hope you're having a great weekend.
DeleteGood luck with these goals! I'm aiming to go under 30 minutes officially in the 5k too. With the right training, you can totally break the 3-hour mark in the half. :) Looking forward to following you this year!
ReplyDeleteThanks. The 3 hour mark I'm pretty confident in with just solid training. The 30 minute to me is a little more pushing myself for the short speed. I believe I can do it though. Best of luck to you in your goals too!
DeleteI love your blogging and SM goals--I'm with you! I want to really build my social media and blog in 2015! Happy New Year :)
ReplyDeleteThanks. Best of luck building yours out too. Hope you're having a good weekend
ReplyDeleteGreat goals! I had great success with Weight Watchers between my 2nd and 3rd babies and still use many of the principles I learned even though I'm not actively doing it right now (I think I need to get back to it though judging from how things are going lately!). I look forward to your 2015 year of running and blogging!
ReplyDeleteThat's the same with me. I did well with Weight Watchers in the past, then stopped because I wasn't physically tracking my points, just using the principles and eating the same meals as I would when I was tracking, so I didn't want to keep paying every month to not use the tools, but then slowly it slipped away, so back to doing it.
DeleteThanks. Look forward to another year following along with you too. :-)
