Runners Assemble! #SmashTheHalf

So the suspicions were right. The announcement from runDisney was for a new race weekend, the Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon Weekend. The inaugural races will be held November 15th and 16th this year. This adds another race to the west coast, which was really needed. An Avengers (Marvel) themed race makes sense, because they're hot right now and frankly, super heroes don't go out of style. Seeing as Disney owns Marvel, I like their use for this. Placing it in Disneyland makes sense as well for two reasons. First, they're lacking in races by a score of 2 weekends to 5 weekends. Second, obviously there are the issues with Universal's rights to Marvel in theme parks east of the Mississippi (I sound like Bob Uecker making a call in Major League). The race weekend will include two races, a 5K and Half Marathon as well as kids races.

Check out the announcement video here, or the runDisney blog for some more information.

I won't be making the trip, because a cross country trip would be Hulk Smash to my budget, but I encourage you to go if you can.

If you're on the fence about running a race, what better way than with the help of some super heroes?

#SmashTheHalf - Something new from runDisney?

#SmashTheHalf
The following was found in Downtown Disney following the Princess Half Marathon. There's speculation on what it may mean. The general consensus is aligning it with previous rumors of an Avengers half marathon in Disneyland. This makes obvious sense considering "Hulk Smash!" Most think (me included) it's the announcement of an Avengers themed race to be followed the announcement of a Star Wars themed race.

What do you think it means?

Jeff Galloway 13.1

JG13.1
Jeff Galloway has officially launched his own race. His big announcement was making the inaugural Jeff Galloway 13.1 official. He attends and does so much work with so many other races, it's only fitting he start his own as well.

The race will be this December 14 in Atlanta, Georgia. The course will run through Atlanta's Midtown, Intown and Beltline. For anyone up north, heading down to Georgia in December I can only imagine will be a nice change of weather. One of the interesting things they will have are Official Jeff Galloway Pacing Groups. You can only assume they're be different run walk intervals available.. He'll also be offering a free "to finish" training plan. Not all the information is out yet. For all the details, I suggest checking out the official site, and sign up for email updates.

I wish I could be attending this, but as it is in Atlanta, the combined cost for a race, travel, hotel, etc is out of my range right now.

You can also watch a recording of the the live stream of the announcement below (from YouTube)

What is this exciting announcement? I don't know. But if you're in the Atlanta area, you can RSVP to attend to info@jeffgalloway.com. The time is set for 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm EST. Not in the Atlanta area (such as myself)? You can join in on the festivities with a Google+ Hangout on Air live at 6:45pm. I hope to check in and see what it's all about.
