Not Quite Bendy | LiveMoreNow | BibRavePro

Disclaimer: I received some BUFF® gear for a part of the LiveMoreNow campaign as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro, and check out BibRave.com to review find and write race reviews!

As you've read, I've been testing some BUFF® gear. Last time I talked about the UV multifunctional headbands (still working great, if you were wondering). I'd like to talk a little bit about the Pro Run Cap. This cap provides sweat wicking to keep the perspiration back, ventilation, and UV protection. In addition, they offer the hand feature of spots your sunglasses can fit into to stay secure upon your head. I actually discovered this accidentally, trying to put my sunglasses on top of my cap only to have them go into the hat. I guess that's why you should always read all the packaging. I've taken the cap out in Florida sun, for a day in the theme park. Sweat stayed back, head stayed as cool as it can in the Florida heat, and no burn came to my head. Despite being black, it never felt hot. Between the lightweight fabric and then cut ventilation, the breathability was great. It really is my go to cap for the sun now.

The yoga's come along, I'm still not great or fully consistent, but life has thrown some major curveballs as me as of late. As always, I'm pushing forward. I have to and will persevere. As I do, I hope to make yoga and running go hand-in-hand, side-by-side in my regular workout routine. Here's to living more now!

One with Yogi Bear | LiveMoreNow | BibRavePro

Disclaimer: I received some BUFF® gear for a part of the LiveMoreNow campaign as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro, and check out BibRave.com to review find and write race reviews!

I'm always excited to work with some BUFF® gear. It's one of my favorite brands, as they make some great gear. I've been putting my UV multifunctional headbands to work. I've used them in some yoga, and just other times where I need the UV and sweat protection. They've performed fantastically. They're light and comfortable, which is what I love about this size BUFF® headware: just enough to cover all the head but no more than necessary keeping everything cool. Sweat stays up on my head and out of my eyes, as it should be. When you're bending this way and that, you really don't need sweat coming down into your eyes, distracting you, forcing you to wipe your face clean or fight your way through it. I've also used them out while doing yard work in the summer sun; a serious test of both the UV and sweat protection. They stood up strong to the Florida sun and protected my thinning hair up top.

I'm just getting started on the yoga. Not far, in both my amount of training and my flexibility, but I'm starting. It something I can see the value in, but it definitely will need the long commitment. That's something I hope I work towards.

Live More Now with BUFF® | BibRavePro

Disclaimer: I received some BUFF® gear for a part of the LiveMoreNow campaign as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro, and check out BibRave.com to review find and write race reviews!

I'm excited to let you know I'm taking part in the Live More Now campaign with BUFF! The idea is to do exactly that. Get out there, live life, and try something new. With that in mind, I'm trying to get into yoga. It's something for so long that I've meant to do, to benefit my running and my general well being.

I received three pieces of gear. First, two UV multifunctional headbands. These are ideal for my yoga work outs. They'll keep the sweat back and off my face, helping to keep me cool, and fit oh so comfortably. For other moments living life, I received the Pro Run Cap. This is pretty cool looking. Sweat wicking, breathability, UV protection, and even built in sunglasses holder in the cap.

Follow me along on this journey. Hopefully, I'll gain some flexibility and live a little more.

Cap it Off: BUFF® Pack Run Cap | BibRavePro

Disclaimer: I received the BUFF® Pack Run Cap to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review find and write race reviews!

My favorite piece of gear of the summer months has always been the UV Multifunctional Headband, formerly the UV Half BUFF®, ever since I first reviewed it here for you. It keeps the sweat off my face, protects me from the sun, and is very versatile. The latest product I've been give to test is the BUFF® Pack Run Cap. It looks like they've packed all that multifunctional goodness into a runner's cap package.

What's special about the cap?

The cap is lightweight and breathable, but it is also packable. By packable, I mean you can throw it in your bag, it can smash up and come back out and straight onto your head. I'll give you all the description, straight from their site:
Ultralight and ultra smart, the BUFF® Pack Run Cap is built to go the distance. Super streamlined, exceptionally light and highly compressible, it’s comfortable for the long-haul, but can easily be folded and rolled to stash in a pocket. The four panel design and stretch materials hug the head for a secure fit that doesn’t bind, while a low profile sweatband provides moisture control without added bulk, and the polyester materials wick away perspiration. The crushable polyurethane brim snaps back to shape and combines with the UPF protective materials for sun protection on long races and extended training days.
The material of the cap is very lightweight and has a bit of stretch to it, giving it a very comfortable fit. There's also a small drawstring on the back so you can get it just to the right snugness.

How does it work?

The cap is another great pice of gear from BUFF®. I already mentioned how lightweight and comfortable it is. I took it for run in some hot and humid summer runs. Now, it's not been a hot as it usually is this time of year, but it was still August and still humid. I'm a guy who sweats. Despite the miles and the humidity, the hat kept all the sweat off my face. It never felt too hot on top of my head, which is always my worry for summer running gear. With hats in particular, they always get too warm for me. It my testing so far, I've not hit that wall with this cap. While it did work well, it did need a hang dry afterwards, but I see that as a sign of a good work out.

As far as it's packability, it works as described. Scrunch it, stuff it, throw it in your bag and it still came back out ready to go. Frankly, there's nothing overly firm about it, so nothing to get messed up. The brim seems to keep its shape well. The UV protection seems to work well. Nothing overly scientific about it, but I wore it when I ran and the top of my head did not get burnt.

The Takeaway

The cap works great. I'm a big fan of it. I like running visors, but my head not full of hair can't handle them without getting crispy. Most running hats are just too hot on my head. This cap gives me all I love about BUFF® in a hat form. I also hate throwing hats in bags for fear of them coming out with a lopsided brim, but the Pack Run Cap doesn't suffer that problem. It's super lightweight, comfortable, portable, and delivers everything I expect from a BUFF® product.

BUFF your Arms: UV Arm Sleeves Review | BibRavePro

Disclaimer: I received the BUFF UV Arm Sleeves sunglasses to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review find and write race reviews!

It's no secret I love BUFF products. I'm a huge fan of their headwear for both hot and cold. Especially now, all summer long you'll find me in my UV Half BUFF UV Multifunctional Headband. When the chance to test a brand new type of product came up, I jumped at the opportunity. I'm super excited to share my experience with the BUFF UV Arm Sleeves.

What are the arm sleeves?

Arm sleeves are what they say: sleeves for your arms. These particular sleeves have a lot of great component to them, in true BUFF multi-use style. First, they have strategically placed reflective elements to help you be seen in low-light conditions. Second, they have UPF 40+ sun protection. Third, the slightly smaller elastic upper keeps the sleeves in place no matter the movements. Lastly, are the materials. It's a highly breathable polyester that is moisture wicking with a four-way stretch. This makes it great as a thin layer to keep the chill off but also wick the moisture in the heat. It's also antimicrobial, to help control odors.

Are the comfortable?

The sleeves are great. The material is quite comfortable. It's lightweight, smooth, and fits well. I'm on the bigger side of the sizing, but the tops weren't too tight. These are the first arm sleeves I've had that stayed in place no matter what. I usually have the problem they either slip down or the tops roll down during my run. These had just the right amount of snugness to stay in place but not feel uncomfortable. They fit the arms and keep their shape well.

Are they hot?

Sleeves are common for wearing when you want to keep the chill off but don't want long sleeves. The sleeves performed well there, as expected on chilly morning runs. The nice thing about these sleeves is that they're for more than just the cool weather. The sun protection is something I personally love. Being a redhead, I burn easily. Wearing sunscreen for my runs is a must for me, but also a pain. If I can have an area covered that is one less place for sunscreen, count me in. In my warmer temperatures, I didn't feel these too hot. Yes, it's warmer than nothing, but not overly hot. It also probably helped that my particular ones are white, a good choice for the sun. I didn't try it in too high of temperatures as I had hoped, but we got a cooler spell for this time of year. You should check back for an update as we get into the summer. My plan for when it is hotter to load them up with some ice. Sure, it will be a wet mess, but a cooler wet mess.

The Takeaway

These sleeves are great. I've owned several other pairs from other companies and none have compared to these. They're the most comfortable and best fitting I've had. They fit well, even on my larger and less conventional (for a runner) body. They were good on chilly mornings but also as the temperatures warmed up. They even kept this ginger from getting any sunburn (no small feat).

Favorite Summer Running Gear | #FridayFive

It's Friday in the summer, which means hopefully sunshine, cool drinks, and the Friday Five linkup. This week's topic is favorites, so I thought I pair it with summer. I've had a bit of a dry spell, but I'm stepping back up my running, and doing so in summer goes better with the right gear. So this week, I'm going to share with you 5 of my favorite summer running gear.

1. Orange Mud HydraQuiver Double Barrel Hydration Pack

I'm going to start with one of the most important things for running in the summer: hydration. It's hot out there and you're going to sweat. To perform your best, you need to get that hydration back into you. You don't want to wait until the end, especially on your long runs. My personal favorite solution for hydration on the go in the Orange Mud HydraQuiver Double Barrel Hydration Pack. I know that's a mouthful, but that's technically the full name. I love if for the comfort of the pack, the convenience of the pockets, and the amount of hydration it carries in its two bottles. I've reviewed several other hydration packs, including the original HydraQuiver and the HydraQuiver Vest Pack 1. The most important thing is having hydration when you need it.

2. Nuun

Going along with #1 is my hydration of choice: Nuun Active Hydration. It steps your water up a notch with electrolytes, clean ingredients, and is low in sugar and calories. Not only that, it is both gluten-free and vegan, if that's something you need. I also love Nuun Energy, which adds caffeine and B-vitamins, and Plus for Nuun, which can add a unique blend of carbohydrates to help fuel you on your long runs (full write up).

Want some Nuun of your own? You can save 30% now through the 21st of June with the code sharethenuun

3. UV Half BUFF

The sun's out in full effect in summer. To me that means two things: sweating (see #1) and sun burn. There's one product that can help with both. I LOVE the UV Half BUFF (review). It's great for keeping the sweat off of my face, which is a huge bother to me otherwise. Second, it protects my ginger head from the sun. That's a real problem you don't want to find out about in the wrong way. I've had that happen with a visor before, and it is tough.

4. Shades

You might notice a recurring theme here: the sun. It really affects what is my favorite gear. #4 on the list is no different. I've protected the top of my head with my UV Half BUFF, but you also need to protect your eyes. Enter the sunglasses. This really goes for all the time, not just when I'm running. I've had the awesome opportunity to test out a couple of pairs: XX2i France1, XX2i USA1, and the Rudy Rydon Carbonium. It's really hard to pick a favorite, and they all get some wear time. I mean, my Rudy transition in the sun for me, the France1 comes with multiple lenses, and the USA1 is a great look. Just wear something that will protect your eyes and make you look good.

Find something you like from XX2i? You can currently save 50% (yes, half off) with the code XX2iRocks

5. Bluetooth Headphones

Lastly, what's summer without some summer jams? Just like #4, this really doesn't need to be limited to running. I love my music, and I highly recommend dropping the cord. My two personal favorite headphones are the AfterShokz Trekz Titanium Wireless Headphones and the Plantronics BackBeat FIT headphones. My Plantronics are my goto for great sound quality. Not only do they sound fantastic, but they're comfortable and have a great battery life. My AfterShokz have become my goto running headphones, because of their safety factor. They use bone conduction technology, so you hear your music while still being open ear to the environment. It's hard to find that kind of combination that just makes you feel safe while keeping your music playing.

What's your favorite summertime gear?

Naturally Awesome: Merino Wool BUFF | BibRavePro

Disclaimer: I received the Merino Woll BUFF to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador, tell them I sent you), and check out BibRave.com to review find and write race reviews!

As we teeter on the balance of not always cold, not always warm, it can be hard to find just what to wear out on a run. One day you break out the cold weather gear, and the next you're in shorts. I got a chance to test the Merino Wool BUFF, which feel into the sweet spot, like baby bear's porridge, it was just right.

What is "merino" wool?

I'm going to start with what was my first question of the product, what is "merino" wool? Frankly, if you follow my blog, you should be familiar with what a BUFF is by now. If not or you just missed those posts, go read this or that. I could assume a merino wool is a type of wool, but does that mean I'm testing a BUFF that's like a knit scarf? No, for that you'd want something more like the knitted & polar fleece neckwarmer. What we're talking about is still your standard tubular BUFF style just made from Merino wool.

Merino wool comes from, you've guessed it, Merino sheep. From my readings, Merino sheep are a breed prized for their wool, due to its softness and high quality. The wool is often used for athletic clothing, such as BUFFs, due to some of its natural properties. What makes it so great for a BUFF you ask? That is a great question. It is excellent for regulating body temperature: it provides warmth without overheating and is also naturally sweat wicking and slightly moisture repellant. On top of that, unlike cotton, it can still keep you warm, even when wet. Merino wool also has antibacterial properties which results in odor control. That's not all. It's flameproof, provides UV protection and due to the fibers, has natural stretch and elasticity and is one of the softest wools available. The Merino Wool BUFF is 100% natural merino wool, so it takes advantages of all these natural properties.

How does it feel?

I told you that it's known for being soft. From the moment I took it out, I thought it felt nice and soft. I think my original BUFFs are comfortable to wear, but this just feels "soft comfy" to the touch. One of my favorite way to wears it is as a cap, because it's just soft and comfy but will also keep me cool by wicking away any sweat. The wool also just gives it a look that to me doesn't look like a "running product". It's slightly longer than a standard BUFF by a couple of inches. I found that good in some ways, but also made for some extra fabric when trying to wear it in others.

What about running in it?

I took the Merino Wool BUFF out for a couple of runs while I had it. It was comfy to wear, as mentioned, but worked well with sweating. I found it kept the sweat back and off my face, without overheating. It also is still unwashed and still un-smelly. I found that for me personally, it worked great up into the 50s, but over 60 got a little warm for me on my head. I actually think that might be more due to the amount of fabric than the wool. I also had issues in warmer temps with my full BUFF. I do better with less on my head, a single layer instead of all the bunched up of a full tubular BUFF.

The Takeaway

I'm a lover of BUFF products, but the reason why is because every BUFF I try has delivered. The Merino Wool BUFF is no different. It's soft, comfortable, and delivers on all the natural promises of merino wool. For me, this is a great cool weather running gear that is also usable beyond being paired with my running shoes. The BUFF USA site says the Merino Wool BUFF is "cool in the summer, extra layer of warmth in the winter" so I look forward to giving it some more tests in the warmth. I just need to find a way to wear it without too many layers, probably with the Sahariane that I liked so much with the Full BUFF. Simply put, the Merino Wool BUFF is naturally awesome.

Lastly, it wouldn't be a BUFF review with out a stuffed toy wearing a BUFF, so I give you Cheer Bear, rocking the Merino Wool BUFF.

Have you ever worn Merino wool?

Warm Up! Buff Thermal Hoodie Review | BibRavePro

Disclaimer: I received the Buff Thermal Hoodie to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador, tell them I sent you), and check out BibRave.com to review find and write race reviews!

Winter is here in full force. It's important to keep warm. You need a nice warm coat, some gloves, and of course you need to keep your head warm. I received the Buff Thermal Hoodie to run through it's paces, just in time for a cold spell here.

What Buff is this?

As I stated before Christmas in my holiday brand wish list, Buff USA is one of my personal favorite brands. I've tested both an original full buff as well as the half buff, both of which are on my goto gear list. This latest product I've tested is a great product for the winter, and is useful far beyond running and sporting activities. It combines a wool buff bottom around your neck with a toasty warm Polartec® Thermal Pro® hood. This makes for a fantastic product to keep you warm in cold temperatures and protect you from the wind.

How warm is it?

The simple answer is very warm. I've worn it on many occasions in the short time I've had it. I have a fantastically warm wool winter coat, that has no hood. In fact, if you're like me, many of your coats don't have hoods. That means to keep warm you need a hat, and then if it's windy or extra cold, a scarf. The Buff Thermal Hoodie is the perfect solution if you find yourself in this situation. The buff portion keeps your neck warm and protected from the wind. The hoodie is a very cozy warm. It's built with lots of room and some good draw strings to pull tight as needed. Face still a little chilled from the wind? There's an extra portion from the neck to pull up over your face. Lastly, at least in my case, it looks great with my coat, so hard to tell it's not just a hood on my coat. All of it looks great and works even better than great. What's better than great? Super great? It's super great.

What about running in it?

Most of my wearing was more in a casual setting. I did want to see how it would work on a run, so took it out on a cold evening. It worked really quite well. It was definitely warm enough, though previous testing told me that anyway. I was able to pull it tight with the draw strings, which made it fit well running, but I felt like it cut off some of my field of vision. It was nice to not have something tight over my headphones and was super warm while still having moisture management properties. At the end of the day though, I just didn't really like it for a run. It just wasn't for me in this capacity. I prefer a hat and a buff (original or thermal) to cover my face. That's worked great for me, even in single digit temperatures so far.

It does seem like it'd be great for more winter activities, like skiing or snowboarding. In fact, it's designed with a large enough hood to fit over a helmet with that in mind. I could see it working very well in these situations, though I haven't had the opportunity to test it personally like this.

The Takeaway

This is a fantastic winter product. While it wasn't my cup of warm tea when it came to running, it performed well. It is a fantastic anytime product to me and has a lot of potential for winter sports I didn't get an opportunity to try out with it. I may even get my first real snowfall here soon, and put it to the test then as well. I can definitely recommend this to those of use that live in the portions of the country with winter. If you have winter coats without hoods, I highly recommend purchasing one of these for yourself.

How do you keep your head warm? Do your coats have hoods?

Doing That Thing You Do: Twenty Fifteen Review

I decided it was time to take a look back at this past year. This is actually a post I was looking forward to writing, because when I thought about it, it was a pretty damn good year, now that I take a moment to stop and look at it. I've accomplished a lot, even if I didn't always hit my mark. Let's take a look at the year.

Running

I had a pretty good year running, even if it felt a little less busy when it came to races. Thanks in partial to my first challenge, some virtual races, and some fun runs with my daughter, I managed 11 races this year. I started the year with a 5K PR on the BRATS Frozen 5K, gritted my way through Rock n Roll DC with my sister when we were both undertrained, completed my first triathlon Memorial Day weekend where I also brought home my first age group award, and finally, completed my first multi-race challenge (and race for BibRave) where I PR'd my half marathon on the final day of the Runner's World Hat Trick. Finishing off the year racing with my daughter on New Years Eve for a 1K was the perfect finish to the racing year.

BibRave

My involvement with the BibRavePro program deserves it's own section in my year end wrap up. My first year as a BibRavePro has been HUGE!. I already mentioned my first race as a pro, the Runner's World Hat Trick Challenge. It was an all around awesome weekend, that I hope to repeat in the future. Where being a pro has really impacted me is right here on this blog. I've gotten the opportunity to try out a lot of great products, which has been a lot of fun but also has helped me with my blog. I've reviewed 11 products this year alone, with another 3 products currently being tested and reviews coming soon.

While I've really enjoyed what I've tested (and I've use most of it still on a regular basis) I feel like I have to pick some of my favorites. If you haven't read these, go check them out. First has to be my review of the Mizuno Wave Rider 18, including a fun little teaser video I made.

Next is one of my new favorite brands, Buff USA. Between the two reviews, I'm going to pick the UV Half Buff, because it has gotten so much use in my running and it has ponies pictures. How can you go wrong there? Of course, I also love the full Buff, and if you're looking for a belated Christmas present or a birthday gift for a certain blogger, might I suggest this one?

Rounding out the top 3 of my reviews would have to be my other new favorite brand, 2XU, with the 2XU Elite MCS Compression Tights. These were amazing and a huge part of my success to my Runner's World Hat Trick, in my opinion. I also reviewed these as my first video review, which was a cool step forward for me.

I'm so excited for being a BibRavePro in 2016 and can't wait to see what else I can share with you.

Team Nuun

It's been a really fun year being a member of Team Nuun. In addition to representing by simply doing what I enjoy and rehydrating plenty with Nuun, I've gotten to take part in some cool things as well. I ran in their first virtual race: Run Ride Hydrate. While that race was Team Nuun only, this year, they're putting on the Nuun Year Dash, which is open to everyone. I also got to be a part of their launch of a completely new product, Plus for Nuun. I used this to help my refueling during my Runner's World Hat Trick, and really liked how it worked for me. Plus, I've represented with some awesome Nuun gear, such as my tri kit or my running shirt.

Blog

All in all, this all has contributed to me having a really great year on my blog. I've written about some really great races I've experienced (and some not so great ones), lot's of amazing products, and some fun posts about my favorite place, Disney, in the Magical Mickey linkup. I feel like I'm almost getting the hang of this whole blog thing 2 years later. I've still got room to grow, but if I didn't, what fun would that be?

How was your running year? What was your favorite highlight of 2015?

My Holiday Brand Wish List | #FridayFive

It's that time of year, that time when you'll see lots of posts of gift guides, wish lists, and 12 days of stuff. I'm not complaining, it's just a fact. Actually, I like it because I love discovering new things. This week's Friday Five linkup topic fits right in there. This week's topic is holiday wish list. When I started thinking, lots came to mind. But actually, when I looked at it, there were many things that were new items from particular brands that I love. Many of them are even brands I'm new to this past year. So instead of sharing just five gifts on this Friday Five, I'm going to share five brands.

1. Buff

Buff is one of the brands that is new to me this year but became a quick favorite. I first was introduced to them through the BibRavePro program, when I got an opportunity to review the UV Half Buff and then the Full Buff. I love both of my buffs. The half is perfect in the warm weather to cover enough without being too hot and my full is really paying for itself in the cooler weather. It's versatile in how it can be worn to cover the head, neck, face, or even all of the above. Now, while they can do a lot, Buff offer's a lot of more specialized options, like polar buffs, bandanas, hoodies, and gloves just to name a few. They even have your dog covered.

Now, if anyone's interested, my wish list includes a blue full buff for rocking with my Team Nuun gear and a polar buff for the winter. [images from buffusa.com]

2. Orange Mud

Orange Mud is a brand I found through some of my running friends, specifically Jeremy and Smitha, who I was seeing running with their HydraQuivers constantly. For my first half marathon, I had bought a hydration belt, that worked all right. It gave me what I needed, some extra hydration as well as a little room for some fueling, but it only stayed in place some of the time, the bottles never seemed to dry well and it was limited space, so I'd still need an armband for my phone. I kept seeing the HydraQuiver and it looked like the perfect solution for me, so I invested in the HydraQuiver Double Barrel over the summer. I could not be happier with my purchase. It stays in place fantastically, had a lot of room, and most importantly is comfortable. I actually plan to do a review on it in the near future because I really enjoy it that much. Since then, I've also had a chance to test their Transition & Seat Wrap as a BibRavePro and just recently received the HydraQuiver Vest Pack 1 to test (which I took out for a run this morning). Throughout all this, Orange Mud has become another of my favorites brands.

Currently, on my Orange Mud Wish List would be the gear quiver, for short runs to carry my phone, keys and whatever else I need, as well as two of their bags, the Modular Gym Bag and Messenger Bag. Of course, just like Buff, you really could just shop anywhere on their site and make me happy. [images from orangemud.com]

3. 2XU

Brand number 3 is another brand I've tested, 2XU. I had seen some of their products before I got to test the Elite MCS Compression Tights for BibRave, but I hadn't own any. I loved compression, so I was aware of their brand, but hadn't really used any outside of compression calf sleeves and socks. As my video review will attest to, man, that full leg compression makes for amazing recovery. This has led me look through their extensive collection, which includes all sorts of gear, from compression to arm sleeves to shirts, singlets, coats, and bags.

At the top of my 2XU wish list, you'll find the Hyoptik Jacket (which is from their high vis line), a tech singlet for the warmer months, and a pair of compression calf sleeves (BibRave orange, of course). [images from 2xu.com]

4. Nuun

Number 4 on my list is a brand that is my hydration of choice: Nuun. I love that it gives me a light solution to hydration. It adds flavor and electrolytes and the other necessities without sugar, helping keep my hydrated all year round as I work out (remember, even hydrate in winter). Their newest product, Plus for Nuun, is a great way to also get some fuel in with your hydration. You can read more on my blog from when it was first released this year. I'm also a huge fan of Nuun All Day, which is natural flavor and vitamins to add to water, which helped me cut out soda at work. I just don't like plain water all day, so it was a great help there. I love Nuun so much I applied to their ambassador program last year and was selected to join Team Nuun. In 2016, I'll be continuing on with Team Nuun, which I'm very excited about. They even have their own virtual race everyone can participate in coming up, the Nuun Year Dash.

Sticking with the patterns of three, on my Nuun wish list would be Nuun All Day, some Nuun Energy because i can always use some caffeine, and a new bottle to put all that Nuun in, like the miir bottle that also helps others in need get water. [images from nuun.com]

5. BibRave

Last on my list is the company behind what you heard often in the post, BibRavePro, which is the ambassador program for BibRave. Now, this isn't specifically about BibRave gear, though they do offer some OrangeIsTheNewFast BibRave gear, if you love the site and want to sport some orange. For the brand, I'm considering that my wish list would be to write more reviews on BibRave.com, which of course means you need to run said races. That's right, number five on my list is race entries, because who doesn't like them?

My BibRave wish list would be for the Potomac River Running 2016 Race Pass, which gives you entry into 4 different PRR races, the gift of runDisney, which yes IS a thing for 2016, and a new BibRave trucker, because mine has taken a beating already. [images from links above]

What's on your wish list? Do you have any brands that you love so much you could list 'anything from here'?

More Buff For You: Full Buff Review | BibRavePro

Disclaimer: I received the UV Full Buff to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador, tell them I sent you), and check out BibRave.com to review find and write race reviews!

I first got the chance to review the UV Half Buff through the BibRavePro program. You can read the full review (and please do) but it remains to be one of my favorite pieces of gear for running. As you may have seen on my social media, I now have a follow up piece of gear, the Full Buff. I've given it a work over with many work outs, and am here to share my thoughts (which are my own).

More Buff For You: Full Buff Review

Let's start again with what a Buff is. A Buff is a tubular piece of sweat wicking, multifunctional fabric. The particular version we're looking at is the UV Buff or the Original Buff. The "UV" is for the sun protection provided by the fabric, blocking 95% of UV radiation. It's made with COOLMAX® Extreme fabric to wick the sweat and keep you cool as well as Polygiene® Active Odor Control to neutralize that odor it's wicking away.

So, how do you wear it?

Like the Half Buff, there are many ways to wear the Full Buff. In fact, there are even more ways, which frankly, given it's twice as much fabric, you should have seen coming. I tested out a couple of the different ways on my run. There are a lot to demonstrate, so I'll throw out a couple here, then jump to the end for more pictures. I of course enlisted the help of my models, because they just look so darn good.

How well does it work?

I received my Buff with plenty of time to test it out. I jumped between some different ways to wear it. I'm not sure if I have a favorite way yet. The headband / hairband style was nice but a little warm for me personally in the end of summer heat. I think all the additional fabric in the same amount of space was the reason. I really enjoyed the Sahariane. It wasn't as warm as I expected it to be covering my whole head (I'll assume the COOLMAX® has something to do with that). It was also nice at keeping the sun mostly on my neck. They only down point was in covering my neck, it also blocked the occasional breeze from my neck, but that was worth the sun trade off.

There are a lot of ways to wear that aren't as practical for the warm weather (I'm looking at you hood, balaclava, cap, and face mask). I am looking really forward to trying them in the winter. The neck gaitor worked for keeping the sun off and the "soaking in cool water" trick, but will be great in the winter as well (minus the cold water).

While the Buff worked well for me in the sun, I have a feeling the UV Half Buff will be my more likely goto in hot time. I will still use it when I want to use a style like the Sahariane to cover my head and neck, but I feel more runs will see my half. I do however feel this will become my goto once the weather cools off, so look for more use this winter.

The Takeaway

So what's the final takeaway? The Buff worked great. It's a very versatile produce with many uses. It kept a fantastic amount of sweat off my face without making my head too hot. It was great at wicking the sweat away. The UV protection is also perfect for a redhead like me, great for my head and my neck. I feel I'll really get a lot of use out of it in the coming cooler days. The UV Buff gives you more Buff for you, and more Buff for your run!
