Five Things You Love to Hate
1. THAT Guy
Everyone has that guy (or girl). Maybe it's that guy that shows off at the gym, lifting the entire stack of weights or running 40 miles per hour. Maybe it's the coworker that coughs for two weeks at work without going to see a doctor. Or perhaps it's an obnoxious neighbor. Or maybe you're Gru and you hate that guy. You know who also hates them? Frank. I don't know Frank, but there's a Frank, and you can bond over that and love together. Or maybe you have a sarcastic friend (or if you're like me, they're all sarcastic) and you joke about loving to hate each other (mine's named Zima).
2. THAT Song
I love music. I love all sorts of genres and all sorts of artists. But there's always that song that you just can't stand. It may be one everyone loves, but you just can't take it. Or it gets played again... and again... and again... and again... and you just want to rip the radio out of the car and throw it onto the road and let the traffic of the interstate stop the sadness. Or maybe it's by Justin Bieber. Whatever the circumstances, we all love to hate that song.
3. THAT workout
You hate it, you curse it, you swear you'll never do it again but them you finish, feel great for beating it and do it again. Maybe its speed work. Maybe it's that part of a run that's a uphill, both ways, with a head wind on a 89 degree angle. Maybe it's burpees, planks, or moving that giant tire across the damn gym for no reason even though it looked happy on that wall and you were made anyway to disturb its slumber just to make it cross the room like some sort of chicken joke. But we're glutton for pain, glutton for the punishment and glutton for the achievement. That's why I can run 13.1 miles and immediately be ready to sign up for next year. Damn you runner's high.4. THAT Fictional Character
You know you have one (or twenty). That one character that. You. Just. Despise. You can't stand them. Your face scrunches in spite when they come onto the screen or onto your page. Yet you love watching and reading about them. You just want to see them pummeled to little pieces, those pieces ground up then those pieces doused in gasoline and then lit aflame. But you don't want to see them go. You need them. "Every fairytale needs a good old-fashioned villain". In fact, if they are gone, if they were to come back and ask "Did you miss me?", you would explode... and then say "yes".
5. THAT Writer
This may not apply to everyone, but surely a large number of you can relate. Especially if when we talk fictional characters, your favorite has died. Or all of them have died. Maybe multiple times. Perhaps you have read or watched Game of Thrones? Maybe you were happier when just an ear was gone? Or maybe you're glutton for pain, watch the BBC like me and shudder at one name:Gif courtesy of the world of Tumblr. |

Haha good one. This morning was def THAT Guy (or Girl) blasting their music through their headphones on the metro- noise pollution not needed at 7:30am
ReplyDeleteHaha. I love that you saw that guy just this morning.
DeleteLol, there's always going to be that someone. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteThere always there, no matter where you go. Have a great one too!
DeleteHaha, what a clever spin on "love". There is always that One song I hear throughout the day that I just ask WHY? Have a good one!
ReplyDeleteThanks. I felt like taking a different look at it. There's always that song or two that just gives you that little twinge and you just cant stop it quick enough.
DeleteThis is a great post. Yes, there are people at the gym that can be super annoying and you want to give them a swift kick or elbow to the groin! (not really) You just wish they would join another gym!
ReplyDeleteYeah. Wish them away, all way to their own gym far far away.
DeleteOh, my gosh, John; just last night I was telling my husband about "THAT girl" at work - hahaha!! This is hilarious and so true. Hope you have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteThat's too funny. Good timing then I guess.
DeleteTHAT writer... how about the last book of Harry Potter. I know she warned us, but I needed tissues right away.
ReplyDeleteYep. That was what I was going with for the "just an ear". I could figure out how to work in a holy joke, haha.
DeleteHa ha! Loved this! My #3 is hill sprints, followed closely by planks. I feel like I'm dying every time I do them but when I'm done I feel like I just conquered Everest. Have a great weekend, and thanks for the shout out!
ReplyDeleteYeah. Sucks during but then you feel good for winning. Take that stupid hill!
Deletelol - i hate THAT guy. especially the one who comes to work sick. boo. now that i work from home i don't have that problem :)
ReplyDeleteThere you go. Thats the solution to THAT guy. I need to get on board with that.
DeleteNice spin on the Love theme, because yes, there's always THAT person.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I thought I'd put my own touch on it.
DeleteI usually wake up singing THAT song...ugh!! Enjoy your Valentine's weekend.
ReplyDeleteYeah. They get stuck and becomes part of the reason you hate them. "Why am I singing this?!"
DeleteOh yes, let's talk about how much we love to Hate Moffat!!!! I'm a Doctor Who fan, so that is why I love to Hate him!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic post!!!
Ah, yes, fellow Whovians can completely understand the love to hate that is Moffat. The "Maybe multiple times" was directly towards him and the deaths of Rory, haha.
DeleteGlad you enjoyed it!
Hahaah, love this. And love your take on it!! Thanks for the laugh!
ReplyDeleteGlad I could give you a laugh to start your Friday with.
DeleteOh my gosh, I LOVE this post!!! What a great take. And you're so right we all know that guy.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed it. Had a moment of inspiration when putting my kids down for bed and was really happy how it turned out.
DeleteHaha this is SO TRUE!
ReplyDeleteThanks. Glad you enjoyed. Have a great weekend!
DeleteI love your take on the Friday Five about love!!
ReplyDeleteTHAT song? Anything by Meghan Trainor. I know she's cute and her tunes are catchy but they just grate on the musical receptors in my brain.
Happy Friday!
Haha. Yeah, her stuff is really catchy, which can often lead to that.
DeleteThis is great! You know what song I"m over? Bruno Mars Uptown Funk. I loved it when I first heard it. It reminded me of the 70s funk bands. But it's on the radio all day long...totally ruined it for me.
ReplyDeleteSomehow I don't think I've heard that, but I think I'd like it. I haven't been listening to radio much lately other than on the way into work in the morning, which is mostly talk, so I don't have it ruining songs for me currently. I may have to check that out.
DeleteYou always have such good Friday Five posts! Maybe this falls under the first one, but there's always that relative ...
ReplyDeleteYeah. I think that's a specialization of "that guy". "that relative" works. We all have those too.
DeleteThis is the funniest love post I read all weekend. I unfortunately have to work with multiple "that guy"s, it can be so tough sometimes. You know what song makes me want to rip the radio out of my car? During Christmas time, the song Christmas Shoes...worst.christmas song.ever.
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked it. Not fun to have to work with multiple of them.
DeleteThat actually makes me think of something that almost made the list, "Hello, I'm Sarah McLachlan, and I'm about to ruin your whole day" commercial, heavily featured at Christmas time.
Haha - love your take on the theme! I can definitely relate to most of these ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks. It was fun spinning it.
