Five Summer Adventures | #FridayFive

Welcome to the weekend. Unfortunately, this is a weekend where the summer is drawing to a close. Of course, that does mean mild temperatures are coming, which I cannot wait for. This week's Friday Five linkup topic is five things I did this summer. This summer was a good one and a busy one for my family. Frankly, five is hardly enough to even give just the highlights. So I'd like to share with you some of our adventures.

Five Summer Adventures

1. Celebrated my son's first birthday

This summer my son turned one year old. It's amazing to think. That first year flew by so fast. He's a big little boy too. He started out being on the smaller side of a little peanut Now, at one year old, he is in the high 90s in percentile for everything as well as wearing 18 month and 24 month clothes. He sprouted up quick. He's so very different but so very much the same as his older sister.

2. Enjoyed some time at the beach

We took a short trip to the beach this summer, which was a lot of fun. We had a hotel right on the beach, the kids both enjoyed the sand and water, played some mini golf and even got some nice runs in while there.

3. Took my son to his first baseball game

While at the beach, we took my son to his first baseball game: the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. They have a nice little stadium so the game was a lot of fun. We had our ice cream helmet sundaes, dad got a beer and we even got a warm up ball, so he has a little something to put on the shelf from his first game. Surprisingly, my son even stayed awake all the way until the bottom of the 8th inning.

4. Attended my first BronyCon

My daughter is a huge fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. It was one of those things that got suggested on Netflix, and once she started watching, she was hooked. I have to say though, it's not a bad show. It's not my classic ninja turtles, but it's good. I can tell you all the ponies, what they've done, where they live. I even have a Discord statue on my desk at work. When we saw that BronyCon was up in Baltimore, we did some research and found out it was very kid friendly. So we purchased our tickets and surprised her with an adventure. She had an absolute blast. She even me the voice of her favorite pony, Pinkie Pie. I highly recommend it if you have a MLP fan in your house, of any age.

5. Met the four voices of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Now, while at BronyCon, my daughter got to meet her favorite character, earlier in the summer, I got to meet mine. At AwesomeCon DC, I got to meet the voices of all four original ninja turtles! It was my childhood come to life in a surreal dream. I say that, but there are things you need to understand. When meeting Cam Clarke, the voice of Leonardo, he loved our outfits so much (involving a shirt and a dress my wife made for our kids), he took a picture of us. That's the reverse of how it goes. Then meeting Barry Gordon (Donatello), he showed us pictures of his grandkids. Townsend Coleman (Michelangelo) and Rob Paulsen (Raphael) both talked us for a good amount of time, on multiple ocassions. Also, when seeing them (as well as the amazing Jess Hartnell), they would remember my daughter. Even the last thing we did before leaving on Sunday, she wanted to "say goodbye to the turtles and chilly (Jess)".

How was your summer? Have you ever met your childhood... and loved it?

  1. Baseball games are so much more fun to go to than football. Maybe bc I understand it more. I bet meeting the Ninja Turtles was a blast! You probably enjoyed it more than your daughter:)

    1. I love a baseball game. It's always a fun all around experience at the ball park for me.

Meeting them was great for me, but I was surprised how much she enjoyed it though. Usually she was mostly quite during, then all smiles and excitement after.

    1. That sounds like it'd be a fun race. It was great. I did a short run on the beach and a long run just down Ocean Blvd.

    1. I would love to be able to do that. I would be awesome. That's why I have a hotel of completely remote job. I could be literally on the beach and it wouldn't matter.

  9. Is AwesomeCon DC similar to ComicCon? Salt Lake Comic Con this year is trying to get the Guinness World Record Attempt of Most Comic Book Characters, and my husband and a friend are participating (Iron Man and War Machine). I have never heard of BronyCon, but it looks super cute! I grew up with MLP and I think that would be fun to do.

    1. Yeah. It's another geeky con. It's in it's third year, but has really exploded in growth. Getting some big name people, such as George Takei, William Shatner, Arthur Darvill, Alex Kingston, Sean Astin, and Grant Imahara just to name a few. Lots of great artists, voices and geeky merch as well.

  10. Sounds like you had a great summer! It's never too early to take your little ones to a baseball game! We took our sons to see the Frederick Keys play until they got a little older and we started taking them to see the Orioles. We're thrilled that DC has a baseball team again, so we had to breakup with the Orioles! HaHa!
